Christmas, the rebirth of light
A universal celebration
“The Sun has won once again. The new carries with it all the memory of the old.”
This mandala is inspired by Christmas, a celebration shared by all the peoples of the Earth, even though its place in the calendar changes across the different regions of the world.
The archetypal element
What all Cultures have in common is a central element: the bursting into the world and into humankind of a Light of hope, love and rebirth.
The Christmas star
The graphic symbolism takes up the forms of the poinsettia, the plant known in Italy as the Christmas star, which in Mexico is called Flor de Nochebuena, the flower of the Holy Night. It blooms when the days are shortest, and lights up its color right in the heart of winter.
From the center, golden bracts and red tips open into a star, then a crown of serrated green leaves, arranged in a radial pattern like the rays of a sun.
The expansion
Around the plant, slender branches stretch outward and light up with berries and small lights. Tiny stars dot the space, and golden scrolls close the form at the corners.
All symbols of the infinite possibilities of creation.
The colors
The colors of life dominate: red, green, yellow, orange and white, on the deep red of the background.
The mandala announces that the Sun has won once again, and that the new carries with it, purified, all the memory and the history of the old.
A universal mandala.
What does the new carry with it of the old?
